I built mine about 2' wide, which is slightly wider than the base of the mill/drill. A friend has a square column Industrial Hobbies machine that he's converted to CNC but is otherwise similar. His has a longer table than mine does, but his stand is only as wide as the base of the mill and he has no trouble with it tipping.

56C Frame to B5 Frame Motor Adaptor. This adapter will allow a 56C frame NEMA motor to be mounted to a B5 frame IEC D80 motor mount using 3/8-16 flathead bolts. This will work for many square column mills such as Industrial Hobbies CNC Mill. The 56C frame motor must have the 2 inch long shaft for D80 mountings.
