Clicking or grinding noise in the optical drive tray in HP desktops. Solution. Test and reseat your optical drive to fix the issue. Make sure that the noise is coming from the optical drive by testing the drive with multiple CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays. Reseat the drive and test again.

Recently purchased an untested Sega CD. Took it apart, replaced the belt. When the system turns in, you hear a grinding noise. When you eject the drive, grinding again. I was some ripping CDs with iTunes this afternoon and a disc wouldn't eject. Instead, the drive makes noises like it's trying to eject the disc, including some scary grinding sounds. Then the computer acts as though the CD was re-inserted (iTunes asks me if I want to import the music and overwrite the tracks).

Next the "Focus Gain" will be set. If you turn up the appropriate potentiometer, you can hear how the lens grinds on the CD. Turn the potentiometer back until "grinding" noise stops. Hello, My CD drive is making loud noises. This doesn't occur all the time. For example,I'm watching a DVD - Criminal Minds Season 4 and it allowed me to watch the episodes fine but when I tried to watch a deleted scene, it made this loud grinding noise and it wouldn't stop even when I clicked stopped in Windows Media Player.

Question: Q: Grinding noise in disc drive. Yesterday, I went to upload some music from CD and my disc drive started making the most horrendous grinding noise. I know there are a million topics on this, but I've never heard a computer make this sound and it freaked me out (I've had my computer for a couple of years with little problem, and an iBook G4 before that).

I have a DELL PC a year or 2 old, and the CD ROM is starting to make this grinding like noise, for a split second only, when a CD spins down in the drive.
